About Lift
Greg Lamboy's 'Lift' expresses the dual concept behind the word. While some songs are very uptempo and hopeful, giving the listener a 'Lift', others have a more sociopolitical focus, implying that if things are to get better, we will all have to take hold and 'Lift'.
About Greg
Greg Lamboy is an enigma. He has the good looks and the good hooks that should make him a very popular recording artist. His voice is incredibly passionate and powerful and his musicianship and songwriting are top notch. The songs are catchy and accessible and his new record ‘Lift’ is chock full of potential hits. Add to this an incredible stage presence and you have a surefire chart topping rock star on your hands.
So what’s the problem? Well for one thing, you can’t pin him down. Just when you think you can compare him to Dave Matthews, he goes James Taylor on you.
↓ more ↓And then you start thinking “I hear some definite Beatles here”, and he’ll throw out a bruiser worthy of Nine Inch Nails. And while you’re humming along and tapping your toes, thinking about how catchy the tunes are, he tosses in some pointed social or political commentary that really makes you think. When’s the last time a pop song ever made you think? With the music of today becoming more and more ‘safe’, and with too many bands creating albums that sound like one very long, very dull song, Greg Lamboy is creating music that zigs and zags, that alternately soothes and incites, often within the same song. “Who does he sound like?” is a recurring question with only one, paradoxical answer: He sounds like Greg Lamboy.
The other issue is that in an era where popular media heaps praise and attention on the winners (and losers) of a colossally absurd karaoke contest, Greg Lamboy is an artist with a voice and a message and he stubbornly refuses to ‘dumb it down’ for the sake of popularity. Greg’s songs are written with his heart connected to what really matters. Whether he’s singing about the state of political affairs in the 21st century or about healing the holes in the human soul, Greg “gets it”. It’s about love, it’s about very human beings, and it’s about connecting the two.
Defying easy description makes for a long day for the marketing department. But with music and lyrics like his it’s only a matter of time before someone figures it out. File Greg Lamboy under “Good Music”.
Greg Lamboy has shared stages with diverse artists such as Ziggy Marley, Guster, and Michael Manring (reggae, altpop and new age – how appropriate). Greg’s music is currently being heard on radio stations near and far, from San Francisco's KFOG to Costa Rica and the UK and he has been awarded with numerous Best Song and Best Performance awards from the West Coast Songwriters Association (WCS). Singing since he could speak, the San Francisco resident holds a degree in music from New York University and honed his vocal skills with the renowned Judy Davis.
