Bio / Background

The first word that springs to mind when you encounter Kala is passionate. It’s hard to believe that such a deep, soulful voice can come from this little 5’2’’ blonde girl, born and raised in Nebraska. Her palpable emotion seeps through every song on her self-titled debut album. Everything about this 26-year-old is passionate.

Kala’s desire to be a performing artist began when she was in High school. Being heavily inspired by R&B, hip-hop, pop, and gospel music, she developed a love for anything that “grooved.” Some of her biggest influences are artists such as Lauryn Hill, Marc Broussard, India Arie, Mary J. Blige, Alana Davis, Coldplay, Sergio Mendes, Cece Winans, and Natalie Grant. From a very young age through her college years, Kala had multiple successes and opportunities in both recording and performing a variety of styles of music in places such as small clubs all the way to arenas.
