Bio / Background
JACKIE MORRIS
Singer/Songwriter, "Retro" Folk and Country
"Jackie Morris' CD really is a gem." - Andrew Doerr, host, "Roadtunes Sessions," KCSB, 91.9 FM
Like traditional folk music throughout the ages, this colorful collection of original ballads, blues, bluegrass, country rock and contemporary acoustic music tells tales that ring true…because they are.
Accompanied by the multi-talented musician, David West (formerly of Kate Wolf’s band and The Cache Valley Drifters), the songs run the gamut: from a drunken homicide in “The Gold Country’s Turning to Wine”…to the humorous foibles of “Online Dating”….to the story of “Louise” (the songwriter’s mother), a young girl in the 1930’s who grew up in an Orthodox Jewish family in NYC to follow her own dream and ride in the rodeo.
A native of New York City, Jackie moved to Los Angeles when she was 27. She has been a professional writer ever since; and a strummer and singer for as long as she can remember.

Listeners have described her music as:
“Touching, witty, clever, relatable and just fun to experience” – Lori Leyden, PhD (author, psychologist).
“Cool beans! Upbeat music…enjoyable stint!” – L. Mayes, listener on NetteRadio.com
“She has her own, distinctive voice and is that a rarity! The poetry in the lyrics is great.” -- M. Y. mym, freelance writer
AND REVIEWERS SAY:
“The album …bring(s) back the memory of the high tide mark of the traditional C and W genre, although Morris also includes elements of country as well as bluegrass, folk and blues. In part, thanks to her crystal-clear voice and the accomplished string playing of multi-instrumentalist David West, she is able to distill a unique sound of her own from the blend of all these styles.” -- Benny Metten, www.ctrlaltcountry.be, Belgium
"Her rich lyricism approaches, at moments, Marty Robbins. Like Robbins...Morris compresses existing stories into song format, culling from true-to-life stories." -- Charles Martin, Indie-Music.com
"Clever songwriting is tucked inside each song. Smart singer/songwriters of the female persuasion are unfortunately few and far between in the land of country folk so it's refreshing to see one so boisterous in her music." - J-Sin, Smother Magazine
