Rootsy in some places, alt-edgy in others, this "World" is colored by insightful reflection and a passionate point of view; A lush folk-rock-pop feast for the senses and the soul.
Bio / Background
"Caroline Horn is earthy and soulful - a gifted songwriter and musician with a rich, fluid voice and a real inspiration."
-Rosanne Cash
Caroline Horn is tapped into things - things we all experience. Even though she writes about herself and people she has come across, it's inevitable that in one of her songs or another she seems to be singing about you. It's that well-honed edge of insight in her lyrics that makes her music feel so personal. Passionate. Powerful.
How did Performing Songwriter Magazine put it? "Whether it's physical, emotional, or sexual, [Horn's] not afraid to bare the raw nerve."
That keen intensity has made people sit up and take notice. In addition to scooping up awards from a variety of song contests, Horn has recorded and shared the stage with Roberta Flack, Diane Schuur, Philip Glass, The Story, Loudon Wainright III, Peter Yarrow (Peter, Paul & Mary) and Christine Lavin. She has also taught songwriting with Rosanne Cash.
↓ more ↓Most recently, her music was featured in the hit HBO series, Sex and the City.
The 12 songs on Horn's newest release, The World We Knew, move between folk, rock, and pop to span an emotional spectrum. She can be delicate and vulnerable or harsh and enraged, moody or sweetly reflective. Complimenting her expressive alto vocals are performances by such stellar musicians as Shawn Pelton (drummer for the Saturday Night Live band, Shawn Colvin, Celine Dion), Kerryn Tolhurst (guitarist for The Dingoes, Bruce Henderson), Mark Epstein (bassist for Johnny Winter), Jeff Pevar (guitarist for Marc Cohn, David Crosby, Rickie Lee Jones), Valerie Vigoda (violinist for Cyndi Lauper, Joe Jackson), and Bashiri Johnson (percussionist for Miles Davis, Whitney Houston).
A double-threat with pen in hand, Horn not only writes music but also writes about music. You may have seen her recent journalistic pieces in Billboard and Martha Stewart Living.
Listen and you, too, will be passionate about The World. Caroline Horn's The World We Knew.
