Polish/East European mad mutant neu-punk, a bit insane and fiercely original.
Bio / Background
Groovski is a band of Polish (and Polish-American) musicians who play garage/punk/new wave/pop noise, very creatively and very intensely. Their influences are mostly Polish and Eastern European new wave and punk bands.
"This album is pure rock 'n roll in its simplest form...It is the raw energy of this band that is undeniably captivating...they are not much like the string of retro hipster pop bands like such as The Strokes, The Hives, or the White Stripes other than their dirty distorted garage rock sound. Groovski is a much more authentic alternative to the contrived nature of today's pop music, with their honest fury of noisy new wave power."
- Northeast Performer Magazine
"Truly an amazing and revolutionary thing...doesn't sound like anything I've ever heard"
- Chris Buskey, New Haven Advocate
"Brilliance"
- Maximum Rock N Roll Magazine
"TOP TEN!"
- Scott Sewart (Pazz & Jop), Don Allred (Village Voice), Al Muzer (Aquarian)
"[G]orgeously searing...something cool and strange..
↓ more ↓.a very original concept...[e]arly 80's English-style new wave of the Joy Division/New Order brand topped with mostly Polish lyrics...with a healthier helping of fury...They're worth it."
- Paul Ferrell, Hamden Chronicle
"Tightly wound sounds that hearken back to the Britpunk of the mid-to-late 70's...crisp...energetic...almost violent directness"
- Chris Lough, Music Notes
"With unchecked insanity and soaring abandon, this Polish and Polish-American gel of 'mad mutant mod-punk' delivers a searing mix of distortion and bite so thoroughly exhilarating and phrenetic, with an unabashed fixation for new wave buoyancy (spazz) that you'll find yourself caught between the love of the glitter and the mania. In other words, don't miss it."
- CDBaby
"A heady, intoxicating, finger-pointing freak show of chaotic sounds, churning guitars, wildly diverse musical influences and minimalist beat poetry crashing together in one gloriously bouncy sonic spew of incomprehensible (in Polish or English) lyrics and punked-out, over-the-top new wave beats. Borrowing from the likes of Iggy, X, X-Ray Specs, early-XTC, Nena, Joy Division, Mission of Burma, King Missile, the B52's, the Vapors, Siouxsie Sioux, the Fathoms, Flipper and Falco, new surprises are uncovered with each successive spin of a disc that's quick to become a favorite."
- Al Muzer, The Acquarian
"Should never be taken for granted...a bunch of punkish Poles reverberating their distaste for the latest fashions and harking back to the simpler world of early European new-wavers... [a] hard-hitting and far-reaching album"
- Christopher Arnott, New Haven Advocate
"Enter the lopsided world of Groovski. Things here are very strangeski. But extremely goodski. Hurrayski! Mad, mutant New Wave pop is savedski!"
