The white & the black didge-masters from 'down-under' unite in a never heard collaboration that blows your mind away. No studio tricks - all recorded live and alive. Funky rhythms performed by true characters with fun and spirit.
Editorial review
DidgeriDuo is a very cool CD by Alan Dargin and Gary Thomas, two of the new millennium's leading "didgeridooists." This powerfully spiritual instrument speaks clearly to the hearts of deep listeners from the hearts of Dargin and Thomas. While it is forbidden to perform Aboriginal ritual music for the public, these didgscapes still have tons of spiritual meaning. The pieces convey the spirit of the performers and their joy in sharing it with listeners. This CD will appeal to fans of David Hudson, Phil Jones, Matthew Doyle, and Mark Atkins. ~ Jim Brenholts, All Music Guide
Bio / Background
The white & the black didge-masters from 'down-under' unite in a never heard collaboration that blows your mind away. No studio tricks - all recorded live and alive. Funky rhythms performed by true characters with fun and spirit.
Remote echoes of the Australian landscape from two masters that present ancient techniques in long swells and sway back and forth in percussive tonal bursts. There is an un-matched standard of focus one must attain to achieve the trance like nature of the sounds produced by the ancient didgeridoo.
The two masters: Aboriginal Native, ALAN DARGIN and sixth generation Australian GARY THOMAS come together on DidgeriDuo to present a soundscape that is representative of their live performance which has graced the stages of some of the finest World music festivals and concert halls around the globe.
↓ more ↓DidgeriDuo uses virtually no other instrumentation with the exception of a few percussive sticks to carry the tones and energy of their didgeridoos to the mind¹s eye where the listener may travel to the Australian continent and through listening see the cultural elements of the music come to life.
GARY THOMAS
Gary is a sixth generation Australian who was taught by Aboriginal elders how to play the didgeridoo.
At Gary's solo concerts the audience quickly picks up on his enthusiasm. He does not only inspire by his music but also by his charisma and friendliness. Gary is without doubt an exceptional musician who is impressive as a soloist as well as a band member. As the "Didge Man" who introduced the Didgeridoo to a wide European audience, he was invited to perform at the well recommended World Music Festivals in Falun (Sweden), at Sfinks (Belgium) and San Sebastian (Spain), to mention the biggest.
He is using the didgeridoo not only for music but also for healing processes. The strong vibrations have a harmonizing effect on spirit and mind of the person who is âblown at". Gary has successfully worked with deaf and blind children on Tahiti, in the USA, and all over Europe.
