Innovative and original Jewish folk rock. The first effort of this band reflects its quest for the pure, spiritual Jewish sound that carries a universal message. Listeners can hear strains of Matisyahu, Shlomo Carlebach, and the Grateful Dead.
Bio / Background
evën sh'siyah blends original music with lyrics taken from an array of classic Jewish texts as well as their own English lyrics. The band's influences are eclectic, and include folk, rock, Mid-Eastern, and jazz. They have integrated these genres creating their own cohesive and unique musical soundscape in the world of Jewish music. The band has been playing together for over ten years and released three CDs, "...through your gates, Jerusalem", "The Way Jews Rock", and "Wake Up". Their songs have enjoyed radio airplay here in the U.S., as well as in Israel and Europe.
evën sh'siyah is composed of seven musicians from Chicago: Elisha Prero (guitar), David Margulis (bass), Ely Cooper (guitar), Mitch Jacoby (guitar), Matt Kanter (drums), Zev Goldberg (percussion), and Mark Freedman (keyboards).
evën sh'siyah is Hebrew for "foundation stone." According to Jewish tradition, the original element of all Creation was this primordial stone, from which the entire world came into existence.

This is not your parents' Jewish Music. In recent years Jewish music has enjoyed a revival with deep Caribbean, jazz and middle eastern influences the blend results in some amazing music. Joining bands like the Moshav band, Soulfarm is sh'siyah. With great melodies and insightful lyrics pleasure is guaranteed.
