Funky acoustic vibes from a 18-year-old troubador with deep musical roots and a clear love for sunshine.
Bio / Background
Emily Elbert is an 18-year old singer/songwriter who blends a hip musical perspective with an in-depth knowledge of classic favorites to create unique vocal and guitar arrangements. Her contemporary acoustic style uses a wide-ranging guitar technique that combines jazzy lines with strumming and fingerstyle playing. Emily says, "I love music from around the world and like to combine the sounds of jazz, folk, soul, country, blues, pop, and world music into a style that is all my own."
In 2006 she began performing professionally, playing at festivals, coffeehouses and clubs. In March, she was named one of three top winners of Texas Music Project’s premier contest, "Texas 10 Under 20" in Dallas. In summer, Emily studied vocal jazz at the University of North Texas for the second year. She studied contemporary music at Berklee College of Music's Five-Week Summer Performance Program in Boston, where she was chosen as a winner of Berklee's Performing Songwriter Contest.
↓ more ↓Dallas Songwriters Association selected Emily as a semifinalist, Relix magazine selected her as a runner up in their JamOff! contest. She performed on WFAA's television show, Good Morning, Texas and was chosen as a finalist for Texas Christian University’s Youth Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
In 2007, Emily was selected as a vocalist for the Gibson/Baldwin Grammy Jazz Ensemble, which includes a trip to Los Angeles in February, performing at numerous Grammy events. Berklee College of Music recently awarded Emily a four year full-tuition scholarship. This spring, she won first place at the youth music competition at the Old Settler's Music Festival in Austin and was selected as the grand prize winner of the Dallas Texas 10 Under 20 Competition.
A third-generation professional musician, Emily began playing guitar three years ago. She sings classical music with her school's national award-winning choir, sings and dances in show choir, performs for her church, teaches guitar lessons, and plays at coffee houses, benefits, festivals, and shows. Emily is currently a high school senior and plans to major in music in college.
Before falling in love with guitar, Emily studied piano for seven years and performed in over fifty competitions and festivals. She is a black belt in taekwondo and was on her school’s step-dance team and golf team. She is happiest when she gets together with friends to jam, sing, perform, listen to music, and go to concerts.

Discovered Emily through ourstage dot com, where her song Take It Easy was No. 1 in the Singer/Songwriter category this month. I was first drawn in by the cover for her cd, Bright Side - love that little smile. And she has a lot to smile about - this is a truly gifted musician, who, as just 18 years old, already has a keenly unique perspective. Her songs have a groovy, jazzy vibe for the most part, and she makes the topics she sings about seem fresh and new, no easy feat. Cannot recommend Bright Side highly enough.
