A traditional Native American singing and drumming group that has been performing throughout Northern California at pow-wows, festivals, ceremonies and special gatherings.
Bio / Background
Eagle Spirit is a traditional Native American singing and drumming group that has been performing throughout Northern California at pow-wows, festivals, ceremonies and special gatherings. Their repertoire consists of various pow-wow dance songs including grass and jingle dance as well as prayer and honoring songs. A family-oriented group, Eagle Spirit's songs seek to honor Mother Earth and to connect with Spirit. They do not so much seek to "perform" these songs, but to pray with communities they sing and drum for, honoring the four directions and the gifts of Great Spirit.
Drum-keeper Mark Owens (Choctaw & Sac-n-Fox) was recently honored by KQED as an American Indian Heritage Local Hero. As the Program Director for the Marin Abused Women's Services Men's Violence Program, Mark teaches men and women to use certain tools to cultivate safe, healthy and loving environments. Mr. Owens is faithfully trying to introduce this program to American-Indian reservations nationwide.
