Master mandolinist Don Stiernberg and journeyman guitarist John Carlini are the perfect team to present these classic tunes with style, grace and melodic counterpoint. Against a rich rhythmic texture woven by bassist Jim Cox and drummer Phil Gratteau, Don and John breathe new life into these jazz gems.
With skillful improvisation and a few tempo and key changes, these quintessential studio titans create a tasteful, colorful tapestry of music that sounds as if the entire project was the result of meticulous planning. It wasn't. The "cats" discussed each arrangement, did a trial take to get their bearings, then played their hearts out. The result is pure studio magic.
This is the perfect recording for a romantic evening in front of the fireplace. It's hip, it's mellow, and it's romantic.
