Bio / Background
Introducing her debut CD!
Singer/songwriter, Dinah Chapman, has been singing since age 5. Taught by her mother, Dinah was inspired at this early age to sing lead vocals for church choirs and to direct choirs. She sang with her family group, traveled, and performed throughout the Midwest wherever her father preached. While pursuing a college degree in a Detroit, Michigan, suburb, Dinah continued singing with an on-campus gospel choir and a gospel ensemble. She fell in love with the "Detroit" gospel sound, The Clark Sisters, The Winans, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Fred Hammond... the list goes on.
After college, Dinah went on to perform and record with a D.C.-based group on Wall Street Records. She later recorded a single featuring "You Promised Me Forever" and "Man of Mine," written and produced by a long-time friend. Although Dinah's roots are in gospel music, her contemporary crossover appeal allows her to transition gracefully into mainstream.
↓ more ↓As she began to record more songs, she also began writing. Early in 2002, one of Dinah's songs, "You Always Cared," was recorded by Grammy nominee Ann Nesby and released on Universal Records; this song was also released on a compilation CD, Bishop T.D. Jakes Presents: God's Leading Ladies, on the EMI Gospel label.
Dinah's motto is, "one heart, one soul, one song." She says, "People are basically the same wherever you go. We just need to reach out and draw upon what we have in common and try not to focus on our differences. Music seems to bring us all together!" Dinah's love for God and for music keeps her inspired to reach within her soul and deliver her best music to share with the world. Her vision includes songwriting, singing, recording, and producing positive, uplifting, life-changing music and creating scholarships for underprivileged performing arts students in honor of her mother, the late Mildred Evelyn Cole Gates. Dinah currently resides in northern California.
There's more music from Dinah coming in 1st quarter 2006!
