Bio / Background
Dave was born in Melbourne, Australia in a city suburb called North Fitzroy in 1956. He spent his early years growing up in Melbourne and Sydney. Although growing up in the big cities, Dave's family were all from the country and he spent most of his time back where he loved the most "The Country" Fortunately for Dave he was surrounded by music everywhere he went. His whole family was musical and it wasn't long before it became a major part of Dave's life. In the mid seventees and early eighties Dave toured with bands all over the eastern states of Australia. Recording, TV Appearances, Radio Interviews and playing to packed houses were all just everyday occurrence. Some of Dave's most successful bands were:
Dave & Crystal Canyon - comprised of John Ferguson (lead guitar), Billy Ely (drums), David Delle-Vergin and Dale Cameron ( bass) were a polished country band winning the Portland Country Music festival and Road to Wandong Quest in their first year of operation.
↓ more ↓They recorded 1 EP featuring Stranger, You're my Best Friend, One Day at a Time and original song Heartache Highway (written by Bill Ely). This band toured extensively and also provided backing to many big touring artists. It was whilst they were doing the support for Johnny Chester and Hotspur that they met up with Clayton Saunders and later joined forces to launch a new touring package.
The Razzamatazz Showband featuring David Delle-Vergin - Dale Cameron (bass), Ricky Cole (drums), Steve Sherwood (keyboards), James A Kinmont (lead guitar), David Delle-Vergin, Mal McGrath (guitar). Were a zanny showband complete with dress ups, floor show and crazy antics. Razzamatazz were immensely popular and toured NSW, VIC and SA extensively, often working 6 nights a week. This band was a what they call a door opener. Once Razzamatazz had played at a venue you just had to have them back. This is the band that launched Dave's floor show act. It was a big band with a big sound. They would often get changed and come out as completely different band on the same night giving their road crew plenty of work and keeping people on their tows all night, wondering what was going to happen next.
The Spindrift Showband featuring Dave was class act with some of the finest musicians in Melbourne. This band was one of Melbournes top caberet, corporate bands. The band consisted of Dave Fellows (lead guitar), David Delle-Vergin, Jeff Diamond (bass), John McCall (keyboards), Mike McCole (drums). This was indeed a serious band touring all around the country and playing some of the bigger venues in their time. The bass player Jeff Diamond was later replaced with Denis Tucker ex jigsaw band member.
Dave developed a unique style of communicating to audiences by his genuine love of music and people and working with great artists such as: Trini Lopez, Diana Trask, Red Sorvine, Johnny Chester, Col Joye, Normie Rowe, Ronnie Burns, Alan Hawking, Lee Conway, Fantasy, Johnny Young just to name a few...
Dave comes alive when he's on stage and it shows. He's had a great grounding in live performance and has certainly stood the test of time.
A country boy at heart Dave has never strayed from deep love of music and people. Dave re-ignited his passion by doing his long running radio show 'Showcase Country" and developing a new passion in the newer more modern crossover styles of music available today.
Recently Dave has turned his radio talents as AKA - "DJ_DAVE" on the new radio show heard all around the world through BALLS IN THE BUSH with Australian country music legend Harry Jon Nannos from CRAKAJAK and is currently enjoying that very much.
Dave started a new single recording "Waiting Here" late 2006 showcasing his vocal and song writing talents, which immeadiately gained quite a bit of notariety through National radio distribution and by placing him in the finals of the 2007 National & Victorian Country Music Awards. Dave completed his new EP which included "waiting Here" entitled, "It's Just Turned Drinking Time". This EP has 5 great new songs showing a number of different styles in Daves bag of tricks. Dave also tours with his band the "DV" Band and plays everything from Bluegrass, Traditional, Country pop, crossover, Southern Rock, Country Rock you name it they do it kind of like a New Breed Country. Members of this band are Nathan Warrick (Guitar) co-writer with Dave on many of his songs, Greg Page (Bass), David Issacs (Drums) and depending on the show or tour a number of call in extras.
