Curtis S.D. Macdonald (1962) Composer
A Cal Arts graduate, who after many years of exploring many popular instrumental genres, has found a love of transparency, lyricism and hyperkinetic rhythm to forge compositions to reflect, romanticize and remember. Passive and hypnotic sustains, filtered expressive pointillism combined with rhythmic grooves create the foundation for the memorable melodies and lyrical improvisations performed with a single voice acoustic piano. Imagine watercolors that sing with a soulful advantage.
Review:
This is music that reminds me of what classic 1970's Smooth Jazz wrapped up into today's electronica but not catered as acid jazz would sound like. This is the essence of Chill! It's friendly with a very West Coast attitude. Harkings of old pros like Bob James and Jeff Lorber float into the melodies and creative solos of Curtis Macdonald's Grandcascade, a must have for the cocktail by the sea crowd.
