Bio / Background
In the latest effort to artistically express oneself, Cougar Estrada releases what is only a glimpse into the future of this multi-talented artist. A work that started out as a mission of sorts to a labor of love, Firefly captures some unknown and extremely talented musicians. All of which are involved in the life of Cougar Estrada.
Besides completely producing and directing the album, he called upon his best known Indie artist, now fixtures of Cougar Records to create and fulfill his dream.
This CD is very unique, in as it has a certain atmosphere that is both visceral and physically moving. A sort of continuation of his prior work with the now cemented ConGa PunKs (www.ConGaPunKs.com).
There is definitely something "here to hear" for everyone. After several listens to this project you will find yourself discovering new things not only of yourself but others as well. So in a nutshell anyone who wants art, not just some prepackaged sound will feel at home here.

This album is absolutely incredible! Initially, having no prior knowledge of Cougar or the other Estrada brothers, I thought that it might include the brilliant Roy Estrada (of Little Feat and Frank Zappa fame) but it appears they are unrelated. No loss though, for this album is so amazing in it's own right that it's hard to compare to anything else. From the introductory avante-garde-ish sounds of "Free" I knew I was onto something special here. All 16 tracks here are outstanding. There's soulful ambience ("I've Been Waiting"), Latino/jazz madness ("Camarillo"), tenderness ("It's Just the World") and lots of interesting moments of consumate musicianship. Sexy female lounge vocals ("El Cable") - yes something for just about everyone. My favourite is probably "Stranded" with it's leading bass line, electro warblings and sweet electric guitar chiming in at just the right moment. There are experimental moments here but it's very accessible and rather beautiful. My album of the year.
