modern dreamy pop-rock with earthy indian and folk-influenced acoustic & electric guitar (and vocal) hints, like an curry flavored collaboration of pj harvey, wilco and joshua tree era U2.
Bio / Background
A short list of things you might hear in the music of David Cipriani: exotic eastern sounds and intricate guitar work influenced by North Indian Classical music and John Fahey; personal, heartbreaking lyrics reminiscent of Leonard Cohen and Nick Drake; pop harmonies and the sweeping grandeur of bands like U2 and Radiohead. The music of David Cipriani is about feeling and true emotion.
A former student of the late jazz guitarist Charlie Byrd, Cipriani also attended master class with famed classical guitar virtuoso Christopher Parkening. After abandoning jazz and classical for playing and writing in a rock band, he studied Indian classical music with master sitarist Jay Kishor for a year and a half. This was followed by a hiatus from regular performances while he briefly lived in Yonkers, New York and at Rocky Mountain Shambhala Center, a Buddhist retreat center in Colorado.

Since returning from Colorado, David Cipriani has split his time between working on singing and writing songs with his rock band, and playing in more intimate settings as solo singer/
songwriter/guitarist where he can show off his more sensitive side and his considerable classical, Indian and folk influenced guitar chops in improvisations and instrumental pieces. Cipriani's first CD, "faith and doubt," will be released in October 2003. He is planning on traveling to India in late 2003 to study with Indian Slide guitar virtuoso Barun Kumar Pal, a senior disciple of Ravi Shankar, and he intends on releasing a CD of solo guitar pieces and acoustic songs in early 2004.
