Tim Chauvin displays his strong and melodic songsmithing which brings a unique and thoughtful perspective to the people, places and topics he writes about in this, his first, album.
Bio / Background
Tim Chauvin has been around both in terms of time and distance. And the release of his debut CD "Wind of Change" proves it.
Tim was born and raised in New England. He lived in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. He moved to northern Wisconsin's Lake Superior country to attend college in the late 70's and from there headed directly to the road as a performing songwriter. In the early 80's he moved to Texas. He's been there ever since. He dropped out of music for about 15 years to pursue other artistic endeavors but has now dropped back in.
Tim has always been known as a strong writer and in 2006 his song “Make Do” was nominated for the Best Song of the Year in the Traditional Folk Song category for The Annual Just Plain Folks Music Awards. Tim has also been a finalist in such prestigious writing competitions as New Folks at the Kerrville Folk Festival and the Songwriter's Competition at the Wildflower! Festival in Texas.
↓ more ↓As a performer and writer Tim has been compared with the likes of James Taylor, Harry Chapin, Gordon Lightfoot and Jim Croce.
Sing Out! magazine published this review of Winds of Change in the Summer 2005 issue:
"If you're craving wonderfully written story songs in simple but beautiful arrangements, this is the CD for you. Tim's everyman vocals and well-crafted songs are a joy to the ears. "House in the Country" is a joyful love song written before he met his wife while "For the Ride" is one he penned after they'd been together a while. Both ring with cleanly played acoustic guitar; one features creative mandolin from Steve DeVries. Another kind of love song, "Houghton's Point", about Lake Superior is rich with detail. "Timber Framers' Song" and "New Bedford" have a lovely Celtic feel with whistle, fiddle and bodran. The title cut has an old-timey feel, all smoothed over with cello. The lyrics are great, too, making you feel you're right on the rocky coast of New England. Learning from children that being different is okay is the theme of "Louie the Rabbit". "The Carpenter" is a tender song about his immigrant (grand) father. The jewel in this delightful CD is "Daughters of China," about the 6,000 children who are adopted by families in the U.S., among them his family. The love and respect he feels for the children, their birth parents and their culture is clear. The liner notes are great, listing the inspiration for each song and sometimes more about the topic. He dedicates the disc to "the women who make my life whole." Amen to that. Buy this album!"
This CD has made it's way onto the the CDBaby Best Seller list for extended periods and has sold copies across North America, Western Europe and Australia.
Tim and his family are currently living in the Peoples Republic of China. You can follow their experiences there via their blog at www.changes.typepad.com.
