Charlie's debut from producer Michael Andrews (Donnie Darko, Gary Jules, Inara George). Simple songs of celebration, sweet and tattered, to enjoy with friends and lovers.
Bio / Background
The first time I saw Charlie Wadhams, I was at Tangier. Around this time Tangier was a local spot in Los Angeles where many of us were playing: Gary Jules, Inara George, Eleni Mandell, Mia Doi Todd, Tom Brusseau etc. Needless to say, many talented folks were on the bill, much like the Troubador in the late 60's. Charlie's songs stood out to me as both honest and natural, funny and earnest. The lack of irony and abundance of charm led me to recording him with drummer Joey Waronker (Beck, Johnny Cash) and bassist Gus Seyffert (Sia, Inara George) in the following weeks.
The songs were bare and rough around the edges and his voice was sweet. We got together with my trusty engineer Bryan Cook (Inara George, Gary Jules, Hand On String) and laid the record down in a week at my studio. Charlie sang and played guitar, and Joey, Gus and I were in the next room laying down the tracks.
↓ more ↓This recording is almost entirely live and hopefully captures the haphazard spirit that is Charlie Wadhams. What you get is what I heard and saw that made me like his stuff enough to have it be the second release on my friends only label Elgin Park Recordings. Fans of Jonathan Richman, Elvis Costello and John Martyn take note. Charlie is a great songwriter and a voice to be remembered. I hope you enjoy it. Thanx, Michael Andrews
