A relaxing yet rhythmic sound including light jazz piano and a voice like Karen Carpenter.
Bio / Background
Carol Heffler is a singer/songwriter of rare form in today's overhyped music market.
Her songs range from light jazz to ballads to Latin-inspired instrumentals, combining the rhythmic and the mystical.
Her debut CD "Pull of the Moon" features her as both a solo artist and working with pianist John Bianculli, saxophonist Dave DiPalma, bassist Jerry D'Anna, and drummer Tom Baker.
Carol's expressive vocals and keyboard expertise are showcased in a relaxing blend of sound, from "Sea Dreams" to the jazz waltz "Love is a Magnet".
Heffler is a classically trained pianist who began the study of jazz at the age of 15.
Her piano solos have been described as "full of life, flowing in an easy way, with overtones of persistent rhythm, returning always to the point of guiding inspiration." Her voice is "a delight of mellow control and expression, warm with vibrato, perfectly suited to her style." (Heartsong Review, 1994).
↓ more ↓After studying piano with Alan Bonde in college and Voice with Dorothy Ornest in the graduate school at the University of Massachusetts, Carol worked with Horace Boyer on her vocal jazz technique and was awarded "Best Female Jazz Vocalist" by the International Association of Jazz Educators.
When she began performing her own songs on stage in Boston and Manhattan, "Strong Steady Love" was published and recorded by the Markley Band on Accord Records.
Carol has opened for and played with well known jazz bands including Mercer Ellington and Woody Herman.
Having taught piano, voice, and Music Theory for over 20 years in public and private schools, Ms.
Heffler is now teaching privately in the West Windsor area.
She holds a B.A. and a Masters degree in Music Education, plus graduate work in Composition at Rutgers University.
