Bio / Background
The first official album of the Dan Brantigan Quartet. Conceived years before in Boston and realized in the Mountains of Slovakia. This journey through the depths of modern instrumental music explores new musical boundries and potentials. This is a truly unique band. A collective from two contrasting points of the globe coming together for one month of each year to share the years worth of personal and musical growth. All from different backgrounds and persuing different musical concepts, the diversity creates a solid chemistry and explodes in live performance. The quartet has spent most of it's time in Eastern Europe but is now bringing the collective to the states for the first time in three years.This CD marks there first offical record, and was recorded in middle of the last tour of Slovakia.
Dan Brantigan is a graduate of Berklee College of Music, where he excelled at both trumpet Performance and Music Production/Engineering.
↓ more ↓While at Berklee, Dan studied with world renound trumpeters Tiger Okoshi and Greg Hopkins. Dan's electroacoustic compositions were showcased at both the 2001 and 2002 conventions of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) spawning 3 CD's released under his own name. As an artist in Osvaldo Golijov's Orcestra La Pasion, he has performed the world renound La Pasion Segun San Marcos at The Sydney Festival (Sydney, Australia) The Eclectic Orange Festival (Orange County, CA), the BAM Festival (New York) and various other cities throughout the United States. Dan has performed with his duo, T.E.R.A. , openning for such artists as DJ Krush, Les Nubians, Disco Biscuits, LTJ Bukem, The New Deal, Dr. Didj, Waking Vision, and Ice T. Recently, Dan performed in Cuba with La Timba Loca, sharing the stage with Los Van Van, and Pupy y los que Son Son.
John Shannon has studied with Wayne Kranz, Eric Kloss, Jon Damian and Mick Goodrich. He has played with such artists as David Liebman, Leni Stern, Eugene Friesen, Howard Levy, Hal Crook, and Erik Kloss. John's former group, the Waking Vision Trio, has been featured in Northeast Performer Magazine, performing at a variety of festivls and venues all over the world. John's solo performances at St. John the Divine Cathedral in New York City and at Berklee College of Music's Guitar Festival have earned him critical acclaim throughout the USA.
Oskar Rozsa's musical background draws from many aspects and disciplines. He studied conducting under M. Brezovsky and has produced over 40 CD's many for Universal and Sony Music Slovakia. As a film composer, Oskar has written music for numerous TV spots, films, and theater productions including "Rain Falling On Our Souls" directed by V. Balco and "Dosky 2000" winning him the Slovak theater award in 2001. In 2002, Oskar recieved the Grand Prix ZAI Slovakia for his work with the band Free Faces. He has been nominated twice for best producer and thrice for best instrumentalist in the Slovak Grammy Awards. Oskar also currently conducts the Kosice Chamber Orchestra. Oskar has toured and recorded with the Barflies, Andre Seban, and Free Faces.
Martin Valihora started his career as a session player at the age of 16. He won the honor of instrumentalist of the year in the 2000 Slovak Grammy Awards. He has worked with Greg Hopkins, Sergio Salvatore, Ron Afif, Don Grusin, Steve Pastoral, Chris Cheek, Jeff Loire (James Taylor), Tiger Okoshi, and Splashdown. Martin has also recorded with the Waking Vision Trio. Martin has spent the last year touring the United States with the Chris Emerson Band, openning for Ray Charles and Foreigner and has toured the world woith the up in coming jazz pianist HIROMI. Martin is currently and active drummer and session player in New York City
