Bio / Background
What’s black with eyes running across it from left to right? No, it’s not an alien, although some might say that what lies inside is certainly out of this world. It’s actually the cover of Arjun’s debut CD, Pieces. Arjun the band is the union of souls who connect and communicate via an expansive musical language that incorporates the rawness of rock, the feeling of funk and the improvisational impulses of jazz. Eddie Arjun Peters the man is the proud parent who conceived this lovechild—a child born out of a love for music that grew into an insatiable infatuation.
Music has always been an integral part of Eddie’s life. Born in Canada but raised in Queens, he was influenced by the music of his environment: R&B, Jazz, Rock, Hip-Hop and especially Funk. It was unusual that a young West Indian boy of Guyanese descent would want to pursue a career as a musician in any of those genres.
↓ more ↓However, at the age of twelve Eddie got his first guitar and that was the beginning of what would become a lifelong affair with making music. He practiced diligently, often testing the waters by mixing Hip-Hop with Rock and Funk and eventually Jazz improvisation in his first band, The Soul Dogs. A thirst for developing his musicality and technical proficiency led him to Nassau College where he studied Classical Guitar. Enter Lamar Myers…
Eddie played with the rock trio Jimmibeetles Rock Theatre and that is where he met Arjun drummer extraordinaire Lamar Myers. The two of them spent many years touring nationally and gigging locally with Jimmibeetles. In 2003 Eddie formed the instrumental group Arjun which included Lamar on drums and Emek Rave on bass. The trio landed a residence at the Alphabet Lounge in the East Village and attracted fans as diverse and flavorful as the band itself. During this time Eddie became even more committed to preserving the mainstream-challenged art of instrumental music that was not exactly Rock and not exactly Jazz.
Arjun’s Pieces is an instrumental offering that fuses everything funky, edgy and sexy that exists in music today. Eddie’s leads are as lyrical as any singer’s line while Lamar and Emek sew a tight rhythm to hold it all together…

If funk and groove is your thing, then you'll love the debut CD from Arjun. There are incredible drumbeats and guitar licks that resemble the musical artistry of New Orleans bands like Galactic and The Meters, especially in "Balls" and "Longass." This jamming band from New York will simply amaze and astound, and you'll definitely think they're locals (New Orleanians) from the first note to the last. Arjun uses the classic groove rhythms, bass beats, and techniques that magically fall into place while still giving their music a contemporary edge within the composition. As an instrumental band, Arjun definitely shines through with their superb melodic harmonies and riffs, giving the listener a deeper soulful energy that is quenched throughout pieces. Be sure to listen carefully to find hidden bits and pieces, especially during a killer guitar solo in "Wung It" that resembles something from Santana, and "Fall to Pieces" which resembles some musical configurations from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

"pieces"
Eddie Peters and his two colleagues have produced a powerful recording with this release. Strong driving tracks full of energy and with a pulsating beat, the pace rarely lets up from first to last with Mr Peter's guitar playing a force to be reckoned with, backed superbly by outstanding drumming and Bass playing. The overall sound is inventive and refreshingly different, the fusion of different types of Music works well. Three very talented Musicians indeed,I await their next recording with considerable interest.
Best Regards.
