A singer/songwriter with a beautifully melodic English voice. Moving, wistful and lyrical songs featuring varied arrangements on piano and acoustic guitar. Wonderfully complimented with strings and a full band.
Bio / Background
A multi-talented singer/songwriter based in London, UK Andy Smythe has for the past five years quietly stolen the hearts and minds of all that hear his gentle, evocative and finely crafted songs. At venues like the Borderline, and at festivals like The Broadstairs Folk Festival Andy's polished performances have won over audiences and earnt accolades from the likes of The Waterboys' Mike Scott.
'Last Throes of Summer' is a collection of twelve heartfelt original songs. In a bid to capitalise on the critical success of his last album 'Love Unspoken' Andy's concentrated long and hard on his song-craft. By broadening the range of his performances to also include piano and finger picked guitar he's produced an eclectic record. Drawing on experiences of travelling the world, childhood friendships, romance, childbirth and parenthood there's a selection of songs to appeal to every mature palate.
Andy performs either solo on guitar/piano/harmonica or in a duo with a violinist.
↓ more ↓His powerful yet melodic voice ensures a stunning live performance and his vocal style has been compared favourably with the likes of Paul McCartney and Donovan. Andy is currently touring around folk clubs and festivals throughout the UK.
Andy's albums continue to earn outstanding reviews throughout the folk and singer/songwriter press. 'Love Unspoken' has also been released in the USA. Exploring wistful reminisces of growing up in England and later travelling the world Andy transcends the usual singer/songwriter fare of love and loss. Inspired by English legends like Nick Drake and poets like Laurie Lee and William Blake Andy has found his own truly unique voice.
