From the heart of every lyric to each soaring chorus, it's the unmistakable fingerprint found on any Aaron David song you hear: inspiration. It's also what defines his purpose as a worship leader at both Woodlands and Lakewood Churches in Houston, TX. ?For me, congregational worship is simply a result of being inspired to glorify our Creator,? he says. ?With every opportunity, my hope is to remind the listener of the greatness and goodness of a selfless Savior and encourage the natural response, which is a humble heart of immeasurable gratitude.?
If ever there was any doubt of that mission, ?To Worship You?, the eighth track on Aaron's recent debut release, This Is Me, will drive his point home. The chorus is simple and poignant, a declaration of his life's purpose, no matter what the situation. ?I was in my room one night struggling to find inspiration for a new song and I was hit with this bottom line realization,? Aaron remembers. ?Whether I write a great song or never write another note, I just want to worship the Lord with the entirety of my life.? And thus was born a growing fan favorite with legitimate potential to be the next church worship anthem.
With his musical taste including Train, Goo Goo Dolls and Foo Fighters, Aaron's writing style didn't effect your typical worship album. The final track, ?The Question?, would be one's primary case in point as an aggressive rock hook pairs with a compelling vocal line to beg the listener, ?Do you believe???. Other more rock-pop tunes such as the infectious yet liberating ?Let it Go?, the intriguingly Beatles-esque, ?Beautiful?, and the album's first radio single, ?Kindle?, though maybe not set list worthy at your local church, will have you feeling encouraged and inspired as if you'd just dropped in the latest worship CD. Says Aaron, ?Putting this album together, I wasn't necessarily centralizing it around any certain theme, it was simply a compilation of my heart over the past few years. I step back now and listen though, and it's amazing how many songs are really communicating a message of hope. Which is actually very fitting because, where is inspiration without hope??
Though now most recognizable behind his Breedlove acoustic guitar, Aaron's musical career actually began on alto saxophone as a section horn player for Dave Bell and the Lion of Judah band as they traveled throughout Texas in the late ?90s. A member of Destiny Church in San Antonio, TX, he also assisted the youth band on keyboard and background vocals, while teaching himself acoustic guitar in his spare time. Soon after, Aaron received the call to leadership and put his newly learned instrument to use as the worship leader of the Destiny youth worship team.
In late 2006, Aaron and his family relocated to Houston to follow the call as a worship leader for the youth of Lakewood Church. This led to opportunities to play for other ministries throughout the church, including the main worship services on weekends and Wednesdays in the 17,000-seat auditorium. Meanwhile, he was compiling and organizing the various song ideas he'd written through the years, in anticipation of recording his first studio EP release. But the project was grounded almost before it could start when Aaron broke his collarbone playing flag football late in 2008. ?Quite ironic and humorous is the fact that we were working on ?Falling Into You?, when I took ?the fall'!?, he says. ?I actually recorded the acoustic guitar and vocal tracks while barely able to move my left arm. It's not something I'd like to try again.?
Fast forward a few years and, while still a frequent worship leader at Lakewood Church, Aaron also finds himself inspiring more hearts as a worship leader at the 16,000 member Woodlands Church, just north of Houston. Of the unique opportunity, Aaron acknowledges, ?I am blessed beyond measure to be able to lead worship at two of America's greatest churches. I am so thankful for the honor to work with such amazing ministries.? With the EP-turned-full-album finally complete (insert miracle story here), he is now beginning to tour and inspire others throughout Texas. The album is available on iTunes as well as through this website, Amazon, CDBaby and other online retailers.
