BIO UPDATED on December 21, 2011: David Kav was born on the South Side of Chicago and has been a Chicago native for most of his life. David is no stranger to the world of music (and/or performing for that matter.) David has been playing the acoustic guitar since the age of 14. He has been singing for MUCH longer. We can blame the genes (since Mom was a piano player and a cellist in her early life and Dad was a guitarist/vocalist and musician as well.
We can blame the classic rock that David was inundated with (growing up on Journey's album "Infinity," Boston's Debut Album, Electric Light Orchestra's "Out Of The Blue" and the like.) However, more appropriately, it wasn't until he heard U2's Debut Album "Boy" at the age of 6 that music got him in a stranglehold:
"My aunt gave me a cassette tape of U2's album 'Boy.' She said, 'this is for you, David. I think you'll really like it.' I was just excited at the time to get something from my cool, rock 'n roll/punk aunt and thought, 'ok. New toy to play with. I'll play this on my tape recorder when I get home.' So, I did. Numerous times.
"It didn't hit me until one day, I was playing the tape while in my HUGE bedroom (which was more like a giant playground. Really cool.) I was playing some sort of game with my sister and the song "A Day Without Me" was playing through the tape player. All of a sudden, Bono goes into the a cappella portion of the song where he sings...
'Wipe that tear...from the get-go-a-ooooooooo-MNAH'
"It was that last part and the influctuation therein in that line that struck me. I looked at the recorder and heard the transposition of the song. I thought, deep down, 'wow....I wanna do THAT. I wanna be just like him.' Guilty (laughs.)"
Since that moment, David would ham it up and sing when he could. Fast forward to 2011: David has released two self-produced albums: "Look Into My Eyes" (about to be out-of-print. Limited copies still available,) and "Better You Here Than Alone." David has, since then, produced a Debut Album with his two-man band, KAVUS called "Nice To Meet You Again" courtesy of CAUDog Records (www.caudogrecords.com) and is set to release an EP containing recordings from the Legendary Sun Studios in Memphis in 2012.
David's latest project is with the eclectic classic/contemporary band, Classical Blast: "Classic rock with a classical twist." David was discovered by cellist Petar Kecenovici from a video on YouTube. After reading his extensive resume (Petar has played with Dennis DeYoung, Randy Jackson, George Benson, Jordin Sparks and Clay Aiken, as well as with groups Cheap Trick, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Mannheim Steamroller, il Divo and others,) David said, "I HAVE to do this!!!" David is ecstatic that he actually listened to his instincts to jump aboard the Classical Blast train.
All in all, 2012 is proving (already) to be an epic year with works in store from KAVUS, Classical Blast, and, of course, David Kav.
