Thomas made his first splash locally with a band named Foolish Pleasure having great success and being recognized as a viable front man. The next group Thomas would form was called The Rock and stayed together with different members for seven years. The Rock was the first band that Thomas wrote all of the music for. They won the battle of the bands in San Diego in the late eighties and attracted interest from major labels such as Atlantic Records, A&M Records, Chrysalis Records, and Giant Records.
In the 90s, Thomas formed a group named Viva Santana which traveled around United States playing the hits of Carlos Santana. Eighteen years later, Viva Santana is still performing at venues in San Diego and Las Vegas.
In the spring of 2006, Thomas received a call from his personal manager informing him of an opening with the legendary band Blood Sweat and Tears due to David Clayton Thomas leaving. Excited, Thomas auditioned in Las Vegas and was hired on the spot for tour support that summer. Thomas hit the road with BS&T, sharing the stage with the likes of Lauren Hill, Ziggy Marley, Stealy Dan, Don McClain, The Guess Who and many more
