The Waterford Landing originated in late 1997 as a side project for members Richard Rippe (electric bass, synthesizers and vocals) and Ed Matus (electric guitar, synthesizers and vocals) in the suburbs of Southwest Miami, Florida. Both members were already established musicians playing in heavy alternative bands since 1993. The main source for the inspiration behind The Waterford Landing came from various 1980s new wave bands like New Order and Ultravox to contemporary artists like The Magnetic Fields.
Rippe and Matus worked over several years with third member Alex Caso (synths, vocals) writing and polishing their new compositions. Finally in 2002, The Waterford Landing began recording all the material that they had written over the course of four years.
The music that is to become the signature sound of The Waterford Landing is that of electronic new wave pop with moments of psychedelia and experimentation. Two elements that help distinguish and bring the music upfront to new audiences.
"originating from the isolated, open spaces of k-town, florida... to infiltrate the concrete humid swamps of downtown miami with a power and force none can reckon with...Zombies beware! '...i heard love dances in the streets..."
sounds like: A psychedelic color wall, a high school prom on opiates, satan's whistle, the apocolyptic sounds of the trendy scene crumbling and bi-polar robots on speed.
