Starting out in Adelaide, South Australia in the early 1990s as a Depeche Mode cover band with the name Avante Moda this 3 piece gradually grew to play some of their own compositions. In keeping with this progression in their repertoire they changed their name to D.A.S Koncept. Further live performances and further original compositions lead to a record deal with Machinery Records in Germany (original home of Snog, Swamp Terrorists, And One and many others in the electronic/industrial field in the early to mid nineties).
With the record deal came a move to Germany and another name change (das koncept in German was seen as nonsensical). They came up with the name Static Icon and have two main releases - Sin Machine (1996), somewhat of a concept album with three sections (Bound, Passion and Release), and Slave (1998), an EP with a cover of Whip It by Devo.
