Spirojazz a/k/a/ Spirodon Leon is a multi-instrumentalist and composer with roots simultaneously in jazz, world music, funk, and rock with emphasis on rhythms and often danceable rhythms. However, the music makes you want to stop and listen, as it often melodic and unpredictable. Imagine a world where the music of Santana, King Sunny Ade, Latin American electronica, Euro-Jazz, McCoy Tyner, Yusef Lateef, Weather Report, and the rhythms of Baaba Maal and Peter Gabriel come together into a cohesive synthesis that sounds startlingly unique.
Spirojazz began his musical career in Chicago, where he played Chicago blues and jazz with notable performers as a young man. With roots in traditional music, he fused these traditions and created a sound that is difficult to classify because it encompasses so many different forms of music. As such, his music appeals to a wide base that runs from fans of Radiohead to Miles Davis to traditional jazz and blues.
