Some people dubbed a radio they had been bringing to the beach for many years "Sand Machine" because it was filled with sand, yet it still worked. Inspired by its persistence and dedication to music, they named their band after it. That is the creation myth of Sand Machine. Sand Machine is a Quincy, Massachusetts-based original rock and roll band founded by twins Jay and Dave Hepburn and childhood friend Jeremy Bates in 1999.
Besides playing consistently in Boston and other parts of New England, they also play NYC, Pittsburgh, Nashville, etc. Sand Machine is releasing a new album entitled Conference in 2009.
