(taken from Robert's web page) - For those who have no clue who Robert Svilpa is ? you're not at all alone. Robert Svilpa for the vast majority of the world is an unknown quantity ? enigmatic to the extreme as you might find some minimal reference to the name or a listing in CD/cassette credits (usually as producer/engineer, or for the rare guitar solo contribution) but for the most part he's been silent and staying in the shadows for his entire musical career ? at least until recently?
Rob has been writing, playing and recording music now for a very long time. After years of accordion lessons, playing/destroying guitars, and stints in bad cover bands, in 1988 Rob joined up with Marc Koenen (keys) and Juris Vinters (drums) and formed "Babble and Rhetoric" (name taken from a line off a Sting song), with whom an eponymous cassette was recorded and released
After "Babble and Rhetoric" parted ways in early 1990 it wasn't until mid-1992 when Rob was asked to write a 30 second piece to accompany a promotional commercial for North Bay's "Summer Jam Music Festival".
From 1993-96 Rob spent most of his time engineering and producing a staggering total of almost 100 local bands/artists. Rob also spent time as a studio player ? guitar sessions and also was the on staff MIDI expert for many studios in London, Ontario, Canada. On the side, he wrote, recorded and performed his music solo.
Moving from the Toronto area to the Pacific NW in 1998, Rob built his home studio while working on his first recorded product ? a project entitled "Onion" released on mp3.com early in 2000.
In April 2005, Rob released his debut CD entitled "The Sound of Thoughts" - a 74 minute long collection of songs covering a range of styles and genres from Progressive and Math Rock through Jazz and Latin. In the time since its release the CD has garnered great reviews and has been receiving internet airplay and podcast distribution as well as having sold modest quantities on Amazon.com, CDBaby.com and most digital mp3 retailers.
Rob has joined forces with good friends Paul Harrington (keys), John Hernandez (drums), Sean Gephardt (guitars) and Matt Britton (bass) for collaborating and writing/recording new material destined for the upcoming CD "A Fine Line Between..." scheduled for release late September 2007.
