musicby CHaD SmiTH (aka Chad Smith) is an American composer in the solo piano/easy listening genre. He began playing piano in 1997 and starting composing his own works in 1999. In 2008, he released his first collection of original compositions titled, "a winter's day." He describes this record as distant and melancholy as it relates to the cold and sometimes somber winter season. He admires this record because of its organic upbringing stating that over half the pieces contain the original, improvisational takes of the compositions.
Growing up, Chad had a fondness for movie scores over the traditional music played on the radio. He credits this as a major influence to the style of music he produces. He also takes pieces of inspiration from a variety of artists in different genres, which include Tori Amos, George Winston, Loreena McKennitt, Enya, Dustin O'Halloran, Regina Spektor, Kate Nash, and Thomas Newman (film composer).
Chad is currently working on his second record and has independently released one track from its release titled, "the last day."
Chad is also a student at East Carolina University working on his doctorate in Coastal Resources Management. He currently holds two degrees in Biology and works as an environmental educator for the Albemarle-Pamlico National Estuary Program in addition to serving as an adjunct faculty member for Shaw University in the Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. He is also an avid runner that enjoys marathon training and is also a member of the nationally-known dance group, "The Green Grass Cloggers."
