Martin Anthony Meyer born January 19, 1969 in Burbank, California. A multi-instrumentalist who began playing music at 12 years old after listening to a 45rpm of George Harrison's "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth). In an interview in 2003 he stated, "The song stopped me...it just stopped me! The guitars and all the music were talking and I felt I could understand them? Like a surreal moment ya know? There was something about the spinning of the record, trance like, and the (cut in half) green apple and arm sticking out of it.
He began playing his older sister's folk guitar and then began playing the drums. Soon after he pursued the piano, the upright and electric bass, organ and as he put it, "anything (he) could put (his) hands on."
Martin Meyer's latest recording, "Last Night" has those early influences of Bruce Springsteen and solo Nils Lofgren, Johnny Cash, Jakob Dylan,Tom Petty, Neil Young and Leonard Cohen. Jazz guitarist Joe Beck has noted Martin Meyer as a, ??prolific songwriter and very original performer who adds depth and emotion to his work.? A great example of emotion and depth can be found in the song, ?What Would I Do?? Which was written for The Goldstar Family Foundation. A foundation that gives aid and support to United States military families.
Martin's performance and style on his latest CD is not loud and overpowering but rather subtle and inviting. Each instrument, every vocal track and all the songs were written and performed entirely by Martin Meyer. The disc will be available in December 2009.
