2. Born Kentucky: backyard string bands, riverside hymn-sings, a grandmother who sang Appalachian ballads, another who played piano for the silent movies. After stints in folk and roots bands, solo career launched in 2010 with an LP whose personal passions were embodied in a cross-section of the American past. Titled Dust, that record released to wide airplay on folk and EuroAmericana radio. A warm critical reception heard influences ranging from Tom Waits to mountain traditional.
