Marie McGilvray plays acoustic guitar. She has since she was 11. She writes melodic alternative-folk songs (alternative = doesn't always follow traditional folk strong structure, recording uses various instrumentation). She has a textured vibrato voice that is soulful, emotional and soothing. She has been compared to Joni Mitchell, Jane Siberry, Sarah McLachlan and Kim Richey. Her music explores the universal themes of love and relationships and spirituality.
She is a powerful, captivating performer. Her fan base is primarily young adults and adults who enjoy acoustic music, but also includes high schoolers through retirees, heavy metal band members to Julliard trained concert pianists. In 2007 she released her debut CD ?Big Love?, was a showcase artist at the Dewey Beach Music Conference, Midpoint Music Fest and GoGirls Music Fest-Nashville; she also performed at Googie's Lounge in NY, Summersongs 2007 and house concerts from coast to coast (California to New Jersey).
