Singer-songwriter Lorrie Matheson honed his writing and performance skills in the storied Calgary bands Anxious Poets and Fire Engine Red. Fire Engine Red's 1995 album 1530 spawned the single ?Shank Pony.? After Fire Engine Red called it a day, Matheson spent some time Edmonton's Pal Joey. A rootsier element blended with the rock in Matheson's next project, National Dust (Canada). The band put out two albums: 1998's Blind Luck...Ain't No Luck At All and 2000's Welcome To Utopia, which spawned the Alberta radio hit ?Before You Wear The Grindstone Down.?
