Little Doc Thornton

Born and and raised in a small town in South Carolina by my parents Doc and Myrtle Thornton. As a kid all of my father's friends started calling me "Little Doc." It is a nickname I am proud to be called by, because it pays some respect to my father, and reminds me of him, his buddies, and days gone by. The first acoustic blues artist I ever heard on records as a kid was Furry Lewis and he was a big inspiration for me.

Some other blues artists that I was weaned on are Canned Heat, John Mayall, Johnny Winter, The Allman Brothers, B.B. King, Shuggie Otis, and The Toy Factory Blues Band later known as The Marshall Tucker Band.

I developed an interest in music at an early age and took up playing the guitar. After playing in bands during the 60's and 70's I put the guitar down for several years and rarely played. Then the passion came back. I started playing often and long, and began writing new songs.
