2. John Garvey's 'About the Artist' on Amazon.com: "When I was 16, I bought a guitar in a pawn shop in Topeka, Kansas. I bought Guckert's Chord Book, and learned how to play C, F and G. I began writing songs, and the rest is history. Thanks to the love, support, and encouragement of my parents, I went to law school, kept my songs to myself, and learned how to sublimate a lot. (See, "Hairy Palms".) However, it's hard to keep a good man down. (See "Hard Luck Marriage".) Thanks to everyone who inspired the lyrics, and to you, for listening. I hope that you will find my sublimations enjoyable. John Garvey, Writer and Performer, The Wordslinger" www.amazon.com/Wordslinger-John-Garvey/dp/B0000WU3B4
3. John Garvey studied music theory independently during his high-school years, teaching himself the mechanics of melody and chords by analyzing the complex harmony of the Carpenters. He studied piano for a couple of years but found that he was much less interested in performing than he was in composing and arranging. In college, however, he changed his focus to filmmaking and graphic design (also areas of interest in high school) because there are only so many courses one can fit into a semester. Now, after a long break, he has returned to arranging and composing music and has been surprised to find that his natural musical abilities, rather than withering, have developed during their years of disuse. The genres he enjoys now are smooth jazz, big band, early music and instrumental holiday music (which is a freeform genreplex that includes soft rock, synthpop, classical, New Age, and other genres). He released the album "Holly and Hearth" in 2006 and the album "A Christmas Motley" in 2007. Originally from New Jersey, near Philadelphia, John is now living in Burbank, California.
