Jack Tempchin has been a principal co-architect of the genre-defining country rock music movement birthed in the 1970's that's come to be known simply as ?The Southern California Sound'. Tempchin first caught fire in the 1970s writing the hit ?Slow Dancing (Swayin To The Music)? for Johnny Rivers. He went on to deliver two legendary hits for The Eagles: ?Already Gone? and ?Peaceful Easy Feeling? (two songs on the best selling individual album of all time 29 times platinum according to RIAA).

Throughout the 1980's he had multiple hits co-writing with his good friend Glen Frey, including, ?True Love? ?You Belong To The City?, ?I Found Somebody?, ?Sexy Girl?, ?The One You Love? and ?Smuggler's Blues?. In 1982, Frey's first solo album, No Fun Aloud, spawned the #15 hit, "The One You Love." He followed that with 1984's The Allnighter, which featured the #20 hit "Sexy Girl." Frey had another #2 single in 1985 with "You Belong to the City" from the Miami Vice soundtrack, which also featured another Frey-Tempchin song, "Smuggler's Blues."
In 1994, another co-write with Frey called ? The Girl From Yesterday? made it on to the Eagles ?Hell Freezes Over' CD. And in 2007, Tempchin landed co-writes ?Somebody? and ?It's Your World Now? on The Eagles latest multi-platinum effort, ?Long Road Out of Eden'.
Over his 40 year career, Tempchin's songs have been performed and/or recorded by many other artists, including: Tom Waits, George Jones, Emmylou Harris, Glen Campbell, Tanya Tucker, Patty Loveless, Trisha Yearwood, Randy Meisner, Richie Havens, Dwight Yoakam, Jackson Browne, Tom Rush, Kate Wolf, Jim Jones of My Morning Jacket and bands like The Paladins, Chris Hillman and The Desert Rose Band and New Riders Of the Purple Sage.
His songs have also been featured in the movies Sgt. Bilko, Thelma & Louise, The Lonely Guy, Bad Seeds, Homer & Eddie, An American Murder, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, & The Big Lebowski.
In 2008 Jack Tempchin's released a CD titled ?SONGS' his sixth studio effort out on his own Night River Records label and distributed by Burnside Distribution. Included is his own version of the hit song he co-wrote with Glenn Frey called ?Smuggler's Blues'.
