There are at least two (!!) musicians named Fred Smith 1) One is a singer/songwriter from Canberra, Australia. Working with the Australian peacekeeping forces in Bougainville, Solomon Islands, he helped write and record an album of peace songs in the local dialect. Returning to Australia, he released his second album, Bagarap Empires. After years of folk festivals and another tour of Bougainville, he released another album of songs about peace and war, Independence Park.
He spent three years touring and recording in North America as Iain Campbell Smith, which resulted in an album named Texas.
In 2009 he released Urban Sea Shanties with The Spooky Men's Chorale.
In 2011, he released Dust of Uruzgan, based on his time spent in Afghanistan.
He sometimes tours solo, sometimes with a bluesy rock band, and sometimes with vocalist and double bass player Liz Frencham with whom he records as Frencham Smith.
