1. Actor/theatre director/Play School presenter Eric Thompson (1929-1982) is best remembered as the inspired writer and voice behind the BBC's English language translation of 'The Magic Roundabout' series. His moving rendition of the unexpectedly bleak 'Florence's Sad Song' in 'Dougal and the Blue Cat' (1972) may be his most notable musical achievement. It was released as a part of the film's soundtrack LP, and on a three track EP along with the songs 'Florence, Its A Lovely Morning' and 'Success! King Buster.'
In 2006, 'Florence's Sad Song' was covered by Belle and Sebastian's Stuart Murdoch as part of the 'Songs for the Young at Heart' project with Stuart A Staples and Dave Boulter of Tindersticks.
2. Eric Thompson is also the name of a writer responsible for numerous 'teach yourself guitar' type books, and their associated CDs and videos.
