An evolving band with a primitive folk blues style. Starting as a Duo (Gone Fishing) then evolving into quartet and quintet, depending on the Saturday Session personnel. Recording is usually a live jam with minimal effects. The original songs are contributed to/by all members (Mike, Erick, Lynn, George, and Tom), so there are many textures to the spontaneous jams and insightful hand-made music. Based in Mountain View, California (within spitting distance of Google) the band members are all west coast natives except Jiri, an escapee from communist Czechoslovakia.
He always says he was "Lucky, lucky, lucky..." Various other musicians drop in from time to time. The first album is primitive folk/blues with an off-the-wall take on reality. The title song, "Gone Fishing" is worth a listen, several other eclectic ditties include "Aliens" and "Blues Shoes. The second album "Bohemian Blues" contains experimental folk-blues jams like "Shooter", "Vegas Blues", and Morning Blues". The third album, Down That Street, is a mix of keyboard based jazzy/blues songs and a handful of folk blues. Including the song "1939". a modern ballad, this song tells the story of the stage hand who hung himself during the Wizard of Oz filming. Also of note are "LA Blues", a goth-toned love song and "The Bridge" with Tom's soaring guitar. Definitely a band that you need to sample a bit to get the flavor of the various songs and styles. Not every song hits the mark but the wide variety of quality lyrics and catchy tunes can open the listener up to new experiences in ambient, folk blues with touches of many other musical genres.
