The Tales of Don Quixote is a rare collection of demos from Toronto indepedent quartet 5th Projekt's forthcoming full length album CiRCADiAN due in 2006. Each limited edition album package has been hand assembled by 5th Projekt. As only 700 extended EPs were made, less than 100 remain.

Cinematic being the easiest way to describe it, 5th Projekt, whose band members consist of Sködt McNalty, Tara Rice, Nathan Kaye and Peter Broadley, has created a style of music that is part goth, part folk, part drama and part spiritual. It is the kind of music that you can imagine Shakespeare’s tragedies being played to, containing lyrics that would please Silvia Plath.

Ethereal, mysterious, haunting.

Northeast In Tune

5th Projekt have made quite a name for themselves in Toronto with radio play and a good live schedule. This is a band with a very different sound who brought to mind the theme albums of David Bowie during the 70’s ... Spooky, mysterious, fuzzy and as intriguing as a Hitchcock movie. Very cool.

The music speaks for itself and instantaneously draws you in. I was impressed by 5th Projekts thick and lush “orchestration” and distinctively poetic lyrics. I also loved the instrumental interludes and the flow of the album as a whole. It is titled The Tales of Don Quixote and is written in 5 parts.

Toronto Band Pioneers a 'Cinematic

5th Projekt’s 11-song extended EP, the Tales of Don Quixote, invites you to sit speechless in a dark room with candles lit and heavy thoughts about your uncertain but somehow spoken-for identity.

Nominated for a Toronto Independent Music Award for Best Alternative Artist, and featured on Sook Yin-Lee’s radio show Definitely Not the Opera as Artist of the Week, this female-led four-piece band has—in the year or so they’ve been together—effectively evaded both classification and comparison.

The band’s unique style has been described as “cinematic,” which McNalty attributes to the “visual aspect of the music . . . people tend to comment on visions that accompany the sound—it paints a picture for them.”

“It’s sort of a whole holistic thing,” adds Rice, echoing the band’s website, which describes the music as drawing upon the elements of “mind, body and soul.”

Review of 'the Tales of Don Quixote'

The Excalibur

The concept EP (easily the length of an album) is a heavy one indeed. The tracks are imbued with a definite heft, thanks to the throaty vocals of Tara Rice and the combined board and guitar work of herself and Sködt D. McNalty. Peter Broadley's bass growls menacingly throughout, while Nathan Kaye's percussion occasionally evokes Amy Farina's of the Evens, or The Edges of Twilight-era Tea Party.

Taking their romantic claim to heart, the album borders lyrically on the melodramatic, while still maintaining an impressive variety of songs...it's an intriguing piece of work from a force to look out for in 2006, when they release their new album.

'Oblivion' enjoyed eight weeks on the KIAC Big 50 where it made it's way up to no.3.

'Oblivion' also enjoyed a few weeks at no.2 on the KIAC Alternative chart. The recent 2 of it's 3 months on the chart has been in the Top 10.

An Advanced copy of 5th PROJEKT's extended EP, 'the Tales of Don Quixote' was sent to Montreal's CJLO FM where it remained in their Top 30 for 6 weeks during the summer of 2005.

tToDQ was also on the Top 30 of Toronto's CHRY for 2 weeks, as well as a 2 week stint on Kamloops' CFBX in Vancouver during Fall of 2005.
