Crash Street Kids

There have been at least two bands named Crash Street Kids--one a current glam-rock band based in Phoenix, AZ, the other a 1980s power pop band from Minneapolis. Crash Street Kids are a glam-rock band from Phoenix, AZ whose influences include Alice Cooper, David Bowie, T. Rex, Mott the Hoople, Slade, Sweet, Kiss, Silverhead, The Sensational Alex Harvey Band. Drummer A.D. Adams and Singer/Guitarist Ryan McKay began as sidemen for Alice Cooper's guitarist and tunesmith Michael Bruce in 2003.

The group known as ?Michael Bruce and the Redeemers? was unfortunately put on hold when Bruce's notorious personal problems crept into the sessions. Undeterred, Adams and McKay resumed their working relationship months later, writing and recording new music under the name Crash Street Kids.

Adding guitarist Ricky Serrano and bassist Ryan ?Deuce? Gregory, Crash Street Kids released their debut, ?Let's Rock and Roll Tonite? in 2005. The album (sub titled ?the Supersonic Star Show part one?) was loosely based around the concept of ?The Kid?, a fictional glam rock superstar set in 1975. With it's modernized mix of epic 70's glam rock and punk, the album received glowing reviews from critics worldwide. Under the guidance of former Pink Floyd production guru Mick Treadwell, CSK set about to create a unique show. Using ramps and scaffolding for the set, then adding spray painting hooligans and cheerleaders into the mix, the ?Supersonic Star Show? came to life.

CSK elaborated on the concept with their second album, 2007's ?Chemical Dogs?. A record that revels in the excesses of rock stardom, it is told through the eyes of ?the Kid? and his groupie ?Mary Ann?. The record was named Album of the Year on BCFM Radio Bristol, UK. Also, the L.A. Music Awards bestowed CSK with ?Breakthrough Artist of the Year?. The Kids' then graced the cover of the Phoenix New Times, who called ?Chemical Dogs? the great lost glam rock concept album of the pre-punk 70's.

In 2008, the third and final installment of the Supersonic Star Show ?Transatlantic Suicide? was released to more rave reviews. The CD was accompanied by a DVD featuring the documentary ?The Making of the Supersonic Star Show? and ?CSK Live at the Whiskey a Go-Go?.


Crash Street Kids were a power pop band from Minneapolis. They released an album called "Little Girls" in 1982. Little or nothing is known about this band, their music based on ringing guitars and gorgeous chorus offered 10 gems of pure power pop. Sadly, the album has never been reissued. Crash Street Kids were Randall "Pye" Prochowizz: Drums, Gary Snow: Bass & Vocals and Melvin James: Guitars & Vocals. A cover of their song "Into You" can be heard on The Methadones album "20st Century Power Pop Riot". Around 1995, Melvin James formed a new band called Planet Melvin with his son Melvin III, they released the first eponymous CD (Junior's Motel Records) on which the Crash Street Kids reunited for one song "Me & My Alien". Gary Snow passed away in 2002. Planet Melvin released their second CD "Chromosomes in Space" in 2002.
