Charlotte was born and raised mostly in NY, just north of NYC, with her older brother and a string of dogs. She liked everything her brother liked including Legos, treehouses and the A-Team. So when her brother picked up a guitar in grade school, she did too. While he played Jimi Hendrix, she played James Taylor. She kept it up throughout high school and college, but wasn't sold on pursuing music professionally. She hadn't written any songs yet, and therefore didn't think she could.
Not knowing what to do with her life upon graduation, she decided to at least make herself useful while she figured it out, so she joined the Peace Corps.
In Kokomian, a small village on the western border of Cote d'Ivoire in West Africa, Charlotte taught health education, spent time with her friends in the village, and wrote songs. It soon became clear to her how much she had taken for granted. How could she pass up the chance to do something she loves for a living, when so many people never get the chance to choose?
After 2 years, Charlotte came home, She moved to NYC, and got a job bartending. She went to open mics at the Sidewalk Cafe and soon met producer and fellow-musician, Dan Rowe. Dan and Charlotte started working together on her debut album, I Get Stupid. A few weeks before its release, Dan accompanied her on bass at the Village Underground, and has been on stage with her ever since.
They released a live album, Live at the Roger Smith, in 2004, and took off on a self-booked 40+ date tour across the country. They put 10,000 miles on their car, played folk ballads in biker bars, and ran out of gas in the middle-of-nowhere, Nevada,... at midnight. It was a long but invaluable trip, and since then, they have been touring as much as we can.
In 2006, Charlotte signed a publishing deal with Sonablast Records, the New York-based independent label that has worked with such emerging fellow grass roots artists as Mark Geary and Kelly McRae. They are currently re-releasing I Get Stupid, helping Charlotte get more exposure, and introducing her to a whole new audience.
So that's the story so far. Dan and Charlotte are currently working on our third album together, and trying to tire out their crazy dog. Look for the album soon.
