Tom West is an Adelaide born and based singer songwriter, known for being the frontman for local band The Art Therapists as well as his own solo work. After perfecting his performances and skills through school performances an d small gigs, Tom formed The Art Therapists(Alister Douglas - Bass, Mike West - Drums, Tom West - Guitar, Vocals) in 2003. The band became a regular on the Adelaide music scene after peforming and compeitions and fairs which led to gigs at The Governor Hindmarsh and The Grace Emily Hotel.
In 2006, the EP Buddy Boy was released with the launch show at well known Adelaide venue The Jade Monkey. The EP was recieved well, gaining airplay on radio station TripleJ.
In 2007, Tom proved his songwriting strength as well as his diversity through his debut solo EP, Staring At The Sky. The predominately solo acoustic songs were backed with unique and distinctive features such as a backing choir and cello on 'Song of Stone' and tuba on 'This Little Universe.
Tom is also known for his charity work for the organisation One Village which is a non-profit charity that provides education and aid programs to a village in Uganda. The proceeds towards the Staring at the Sky EP as well as the profits from the launch night were donated to the charity. Tom West commented on the idea in music magazine Rip It Up by saying ?I felt that despite the massive response to Nikki's work so far that there was a vast reservoir of untapped generosity here among the Adelaide music scene and that a benefit gig would be a great way to take advantage of that.?
