Jason Milton and Callan Saunders are the indie pop duo, The Demos. Milton and Saunders began their musical journey back in 2002, writing and performing their tunes alongside their other loves: girls, fast cars, and reckless romance. Their influences consist of indie rock essentials and the classics like The Strokes, The Beatles, and The Beach Boys, to name a few. Their latest release, Lovely was a labor of love that started in 2009.
Their latest release, Lovely was a labor of love that started in 2009. Roughly thirty songs were written and trimmed down to twelve sonically sweet tracks co-produced by The Demos and Mikey James (of Mikey Jukebox, Longwave, and The Mercies). You'll hear a taste of danceable glam rock on songs like "Veronica," and complex, infectious vocal harmonies on "Meet at Night." "Nervous" is the most energetic song on the record, sporting a catchy hook and a dance-worthy beat. The record was mixed in Memphis at Ardent Studios by Grammy-Award-winner, John Hampton (The White Stripes Get Behind Me Satan). It was fitting that Lovely found a nice home at Ardent, considering that the band Big Star, a big influence on The Demos' Lovely, recorded their records at Ardent as well.
Although these guys will happily admit they love to chase their thrills, they take their music and art quite seriously. They write their own songs and live by the standard that everything they record must be real and performed by human hands. "We won't play to a backing track and we don't use auto-tune. The way the tracks sound are the way we played them," they explain.
The Demos have also been working as guest performers with Mike James on his project, Mikey Jukebox, so it was fitting that they enlisted James' help as co-producer of Lovely and simultaneously joined James at his independent label, Young Lion of the West Recording Company in November of 2009.
