Christa Wells is best known as the writer of Natalie Grant's hit single, "Held" which earned her the Gospel Music Association's Songwriter of the Year award in 2006. She is also a singer in her own right, having performed as time and opportunity permit since she was a young girl. Coming from an artistic family, it was natural that Christa and her youngest sister, Mandy Rogers, teamed up in 2005 for a recording project of their own. Mandy is a gifted painter (www.mandyrogers.
et) and teaches art at the university level in Tennessee, as well as writing music and singing at the piano in her "spare" time. Having grown a garden of songs that weren't yet picked up by other artists, Christa and Mandy felt compelled to send them out to be heard one way or another, by appreciators of independent music (who are duly appreciated by the independent musicians!). Their first recorded project, "so much to tell you," features 14 (!) original songs, including Christa's tender rendition of "Held." CDs and downloads are now available at CDBaby.com AND iTunes. Although they do not tour, the girls perform intermittantly, and Christa has performed and shared at a variety of events over the past couple of years. Both participate in leading workshops at Masterpiece Ministries art camps each summer (www.masterpieceministries.org). Keep up with Christa via her blog at www.christawells.net
Addendum: Natalie Grant's new single "Our Hope Endures" was also penned by Christa Wells! As of this writing, LastFM does not offer a way to hear that song or the new album--but you can get it cheap through Amazon.com's MP3 Downloads.
