Romanian ? American conductor Ovidiu Marinescu is a regular guest conductor of the Russian Philharmonic in Moscow, with whom he has recorded several CD's with music by Tchaikovsky, Miaskovsky, Samuel Barber, and many American contemporary composers. He served as the Music Director of the Manalapan Orchestra and the Immaculata Symphony, conductor for the Wilmington Orchestra, and Principal Conductor of the Goppisberg Festival Orchestra in Switzerland.
His guest conducting includes the Bacau, Ploiesti, Craiova, and Botosani Philharmonics in Romania, Gaia Philharmonic in Portugal and with Orquesta de Extremadura in Spain as conductor and soloist. He conducted the world premiere of the ballet Helen Keller by The Rebecca David Ballet Company in Philadelphia.
Equally outstanding as a cellist, Ovidiu Marinescu has performed at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, and Steinway Hall in New York, in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Rome, Venice, and Paris. His recording of the complete Bach Cello Suites has been released by Navona Records. Marinescu has performed with the New York Chamber Symphony, the National Radio Orchestra of Romania, Helena Symphony, Cleveland Philharmonic, and the Moscow Chamber Orchestra in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. After his acclaimed first compact disc "Fiesta Latina," he recorded the complete Miaskovsky cello works with the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra. Marinescu is professor of cello and conducting at West Chester University.
