Brooklyn-based Lucky Cat is a solo effort devoted to exploring the grey areas between pop, rock, and soul, in the vein of artists like Prince, TV on the Radio, and David Bowie. The one-man band is Michael Tuminello, who writes, arranges, performs and produces all of the music. Previous experience includes a long-term stint in modern blues rock band Prankstar, which had a successful if underpromoted stint in New York City, playing over 50 club dates, including well-known venues like the now-defunct CBGB's and the Continental.

The debut album, The Breakdown Train, was born from an effort to purge blues-rock in favor of pop and funk, and the 11 tracks of the album were selected from 77 tracks recorded to shake off the blues (the initial goal was 100, but 77 did the trick).
While purposefully attempting to avoid rock and blues as primary genres, the album emotionally and lyrically traces a story from high to low to high again, drawing on the twin zig-zags of transforming from bachelor into father, and embracing a hopeful new presidential administration while simultaneously witnessing the strikingly unapologetic collapse of the financial sector.
