Layabout, a pop/rock trio comprised of keys, bass and drums which often employs a three-piece horn section, was formed in the summer of 2003 when Edward "Tex" Miller sought like-minded musicians with a magical touch who were willing to play for a small pittance (initially measured in Pfennigs). The band's songs are heavily jazz influenced and reflect a diversity of musical inspiration from Steely Dan, to Claude Debussy, to Bill Evans to Lambchop.
