Born in 1955 in the north western Quebec mining town of Rouyn Noranda, he began playing guitar at age 12, and was playing locally at age 15. He started as a freelance lead guitarist in 1980, based out of Toronto. The next year he joined Richard Desjardins and the group Abbittibbi. He played guitar & vocals on the bands first LP "Boomtown caf?" and toured Quebec and north eastern Ontario extensively.
1983 he released a solo single "Friends" accompanied by Head Waters (Bourbon Gauthier drums and R?mi Perron bass)
He continued freelancing as lead guitarist & vocalist between Montreal & Toronto and worked with songwriter Terry Christenson,Steve Faulkner and later with Billy Cann's Memories & reflections of Elvis through out Canada between 1983 & 1985.
He then returned to Montreal to form Barbed Wire Booze Band an R&B country rock cover band, working steady until 1990.
That same years he began to write more songs and played solo, acoustic folk & country oriented original material.
Comes 1993, he moved to Vancouver and hooked-up with long time friend and touring partner pedal and lap steel player Charlie Hase ,Tim Roland guitarist & song writer, to form Steele Thirsty. The band recorded their first CD. The songs penned by Tim Roland and Gary Farrell with Peter Padden on drums & producer, Steve Pugsly on bass and engineered by Mark Gordon
Unfortunately the CD was never released. The band had limited success but did tour BC & Alberta.
In 2002 he took a break from the road and the industry but in 2003 he wrote 14 new songs.
2004 he recorded at Fast Forward Studio in Montreal with engineer and long time friend Barny Benninger , preparing for his new CD, and played solo gigs around Montreal & Ottawa.
2005-6 Moved to Montreal from Ottawa and played solo gigs working towards releasing Border man CD.
2007 ..was spent recording & mixing 11songs CD of original songs .Gary released his CD on the 8th of April 2008 in Montreal. He is currently playing gigs in & around Ottawa
